Behind the Scenes Exclusive

A truly unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at our world-renowned kiwi conservation programme.

Join our hatchery team for an immersive one-hour experience in a staff-only area of our state-of-the-art kiwi hatching facility. Learn about the incubation, hatching and chick rearing techniques used by our expert Kiwi Keepers, and discover how we care for kiwi at every stage of their journey.

During hatching season, guests have the opportunity to observe a kiwi chick undergoing their daily health check and, depending on kiwi welfare requirements, may also have the opportunity for a keeper-managed kiwi photo.

Outside of hatching season, the experience shifts to a deeper look into the wider kiwi conservation and recovery journey, with insight into the ongoing care, development and protection of young kiwi. Find out more about visting outside of the kiwi hatching season.

You’ll also learn about kiwi, their native environment and what makes them such an iconic part of Aotearoa. Step into darkness in our purpose-built Nocturnal House to spot foraging kiwi and explore the secrets of these remarkable birds through our interactive displays.
