The National Kiwi Hatchery is the national leader in kiwi husbandry, egg incubation systems, hatching techniques and kiwi chick rearing. 

Join one of our experiences and take an immersive journey where you'll learn about Kiwi, their native environment and what makes them truly iconic the world over.  Delve into darkness and spot kiwi in our purpose-built nocturnal house and discover the secrets of the kiwi in our interactive displays. 

Chat to our Kiwi experts and learn the secrets of the kiwi and what makes this bird our cherished national icon. 

Educational, thought-provoking and truly unique experiences, you'll get to see how we're helping kiwi at the largest and most successful kiwi hatchery in the world. You'll be participating in global conservations efforts with 100% of your ticket price goes straight back to our kiwi hatching programme.

When to visit

September-March: 

Kiwi hatching season is September to March. During these months you'll get the opportunity to see kiwi eggs being incubated, the hatching process and newly hatched kiwi chicks.

April-August:

Between April and August there may not be eggs or chicks to see on site, but our resident adult kiwi will be foraging in our Nocturnal House for you to observe.

Opening Hours

We are open 7 days a week, including public holidays:
Tours run at set times throughout the day between 9am and 2.30pm.
